Ismael Mendoza was born and raised in CD. Juarez, Mexico and had the opportunity to attend Bowie High School in El Paso, TX, Here he was invited to participate at the TEXprep program at the University of Texas at El Paso were he was exposed to the wonderful world of engineering. He holds a B.S. in Engineering with an Electrical Specialty from the Colorado School of Mines.

Ismael is currently an Electrical Test Engineer for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. He has also worked as a design and test engineer for Colorado Electronic Product Design constructing many customized consumer products.

Ismael is a SHPE Lifetime member and has been active in SHPE since 1998, serving in different leadership positions. He was first introduced to SHPE while attending the Colorado School of Mines where he immediately rose to the leadership position. One of his biggest accomplishments was to organize and execute the SHPE Fiesta where he invited Chicano icons such as Abelardo "Lalo" Delgado to talk to the campus community. He then served as the Region 3 Student Representative where one of his biggest accomplishments was the increased regional membership participation as well as in a national level through regional events such as the Regional Leadership Conference (now known as the RLDC).

Now as a professional he has served as Region 3 Vice-President on the SHPE National Board of Directors (2005-2009). He has also been an active member of the SHPE Colorado Professional Chapter. As a Regional Vice-president he championed two very successful National Technical Career Conferences (now known as SHPE National Conference) in Orlando, FL and Denver, CO.
