Goodwill comes to Colorado

SHPE has moved, and the good will has been brought to Colorado by the Hispanics of the local area, as well as the national organization.

Today, the organization combines the knowledge of existing professionals with the enthusiasm of young people to create mentoring programs that benefit both students and professionals. Through this guild of engineers, the students are able to learn about life in the field and make contacts for potential internships and jobs while the professionals are able to feel the reward of giving back to the community. There are currently 250 student branches with over 10,000 students enrolled and 42 professional chapters with about 1,500 members. The growth of the organization has not slowed down over the years either, it has only increased. This is due to the passion and dedication of the members of the society. In the Colorado Chapter alone, the goal for 2010 was to increase membership by 50% and expand the reach of the society by starting a junior society targeted at high school students who are interested in the field of technology and engineering. Not only does the society engage students by enabling networking opportunities within the field, but they also assist students who are bound for success in the industry. In fact, SHPE offers a myriad scholarship opportunities providing over $2 million in scholarships annually.
